Bowl of Fire

Lake Mead NRA

The Bowl of Fire is brilliant-red Jurassic-Age red sandstone outcrops surrounded by gray limestone mountains. The limestone forms the sides of the bowl, and the red sandstone forms the fire in the bottom. No trail just enjoyable wandering across the desert.

Lake Mead is the largest manmade reservoir in the United States, spanning over 110 miles long in Nevada and Arizona. When Lake Mead is at its fullest, it boasts 759 miles of shoreline, is 532 feet deep, has 247 square miles of surface and 28 millions-acre feet of water. Three of America’s four desert ecosystems – the Mojave, the Great Basin, and the Sonoran Deserts meet in Lake Mead.  Google Map
